IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING A REFERRAL

Our counselling service supports children and young people aged 11–26 living in West Lothian.

Once you submit a referral, you will be added to our waiting list. If we need any additional information, we will contact you within two working days. We cannot currently give an estimated waiting time for an appointment.

We offer up to 12 weekly counselling sessions at our counselling centre in Livingston.

Donations towards counselling

As a charity, S.M.I.L.E. relies on donations to help keep counselling accessible to young people. Our standard suggested donation is £20 per session, with options to suit different circumstances:

£20 – Standard Suggested Donation
£15 – Reduced Donation
£10 – Minimum Donation
£25 or £30 – pay it forward, helping another young person access support.

If £10 per session is unaffordable, please contact us confidentially to discuss a supported place. No young person will be prevented from accessing counselling because they cannot afford to donate.

Organisations financially supporting a client are asked to make a one-off, non-refundable donation of £240.00. Further information will be provided before counselling begins. If you would like to discuss anything before making a referral please email:

We are delighted to announce that S.M.I.L.E. Counselling secured funding from the National Lottery Community fund. Over the next three years we will be able to employ counsellors to work with clients aged 11 – 15 years-old and a counsellor to work with clients who have been diagnosed with or identify as having a neurodiverse condition. A huge thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund and those who play the National Lottery for this incredible and life changing support.

With this support from the National Lottery Community Fund we will have more availability for client sessions than ever before. From Autumn we will be able to offer counselling until 7:00pm Monday to Thursday.
